New SkyTrain cars not expected until 2009
The Vancouver Sun’s Randy Shore is reporting that TransLink has some new rolling stock for the congested Expo Line on order. For those of you who are daily riders will know that it’s not uncommon to wait for a train or two before boarding the SkyTrain. If you do get on, then you are usually right up against your neighbour. My favourite neighbour must be the one with those awful free dailies in hand. How does one flip the page of the paper while holding onto the bar and being within an inch of your fellow rider.
A slightly off-topic addition to this article points out that gas prices seem not to account for the surge in ridership. A sudden spike is usually attributed to some ridership according to surveys, but the effect is short-lived.
