Kelowna is the proud home of the newly-minted William R. Bennett Bridge. This new bridge is meant to relieve the bottleneck traffic that crosses Lake Okanagan every morning. However, The Tyee uncovers that even local politicians that supported the new bridge are questioning whether building more roads will solve their traffic woes.
If politicians in the Okanagan are questioning road and highway expansion, then why is BC`s Ministry of Transportation still insisting on twinning the Port Mann Bridge and expanding Highway 1. Even in parts of the province that are heavily car dependent, they are asking the right questions. Is the status quo of build your way out of traffic going to really work.
