Pet Peeves: Doggie doo on the sidewalk

As the snow has started to melt, a new pet peeve has revealed itself in the wake of the white stuff.  There’s now brown stuff in the middle of the sidewalk.  Actually, the real problem is not limited to recent weeks or months.  It’s an ongoing issue with irresponsible dog owners.

There are some dog owners that give all dog owners a bad name.  These dog owners do not perform the necessary pooper scooping that should come with walking one’s dog in the park or along the street.  I’m sure everybody has had the wonderful experience of having the sudden squich under one’s sole.  A wonderful feeling, indeed.

Normally, the dogs will go on the grass.  Even if the doo-doo is on the grass, it should be picked up by the owner.  How do these bad dog owners expect people to mow their lawns in better weather when there are mounds of turd all over the yard?  It’s the dog owners responsibilty to clean up after their dogs.  The dogs don’t know any better; the owners do.

With the huge snow piles in the past weeks, these dog owners are continuing their malpractice of neglect and leaving the doggie doo smack dab in the middle of the sidewalk!  I don’t know about you, but isn’t that poor form?

So dog owners, please bring out your plastic bags with you and clean up after your dog.  There are some great products in pet stores to pick up doggie doo.  Scoopies and Bags on Board are two that I highly recommend.  They are compact and easy to carry with the dogs leash.  The plastic grocery bags are unwieldly at times, so these biodegradable alternatives are great.

There’s my rant for the day.
