Happy New Year

Thanks to all the readers who come to this blog regularly, semi-regularly, infrequently, and once-in-a-blue-moon.  Have a Happy New Year and all the best for 2010.

Here’s a little photo from Nikkei Place in Burnaby to celebrate the New Year.  It’s a display of mochi (round rice), a food that is often eaten as a part of New Year celebrations in Japan.  The mochi symbolizes happiness, strength, health, and longevity.  Nikkei Place recently had a Mochitsuki (mochi pounding) to celebrate the New Year.  There were at least a hundred people present and a long, long line up for freshly pounded mochi.
