The Walking Tour season for Vancouver Heritage Foundation has just finished. If you would like to go on these tours, contact the Foundation or check their website some time next year to see what tours they have in store for us in 2014. This time our Railtown walking tour actually started in or at the edge of Gastown. I guess it depends who you talk … Continue reading VHF Railtown Walking Tour
I had the rotten luck of not being able to ride transit for a whole week. I know that sounds like a weird statement, but a week like this is rare for me. With work and off-site presentations, I ended up needing the car a lot this week. Add in the major SkyTrain malfunction on Tuesday and I ended up driving on a day that … Continue reading Compass Card – Cards Expired!
Here’s the last of my Edmonton LRT posts from July 2013. (It’s amazing how far behind I am on posting things, but things are too busy to do photos and blog everyday). This post covers the construction of the new Edmonton North LRT. It’s currently the North LRT, but it will eventually be called the Metro Line once everything is finished. The North LRT currently … Continue reading Edmonton North LRT – Under Construction
It’s been another week tapping the leftover amount on my Compass Card. It’s October 19th and I have just under $60 left in my balance. I think the money is lasting a little longer since I only get $1.75 deducted per ride with a Concession card. Here are a few of my thoughts from the past week. I really want a way to track my … Continue reading The Card Keeps Tapping – Post Compass Card Beta Test (October 19, 2013)

If you would like to go on these tours, contact the Foundation or check their website some time next year to see what tours they have in store for us in 2014. In August, I had the pleasure of joining the Vancouver Heritage Foundation and Maurice Guibord on yet another wonderful walking tour. This … Continue reading VHF West End Walking Tour
After the Health Sciences Station at the University of Alberta, the Edmonton LRT continues south along 114 Street. The next stop is McKernan Belgravia. It’s a small, unassuming station near 76 Avenue. The largest landmark around here is the McKernan School across the street. Photographically, what interested me was the underground pedestrian/bicycle passage way and the ramps on either side. Further south along 114th Street … Continue reading Edmonton LRT – South LRT
So I still had $100 of “play cash” on my orange concession Compass Card. The monthly pass expired on October 1st. So I’ve been slowly using up the “cash.” A few more observations from this past week. The bus card readers and the SkyTrain gate card readers are different. The SkyTrain gates seem to read the cards quite easily and robustly. I can hold my … Continue reading Post Compass Beta Test Update – Keep on Tapping, Tapping, Tapping
The Compass Beta Test is officially over as of yesterday. Here’s a few notes from the last week. I was able to tap my card through my backpack a couple of times. I had to keep my card in a more exterior pocket and I only ever tried it on the SkyTrain gates. It would have looked and felt awkward to “tap my bag” on … Continue reading Compass Beta Test is officially over, but …
