Better Transit & Transportation Supporters List

If you’re wondering who is pushing for better transit in Metro Vancouver, look no further than the Better Transit & Transportation coalition. These are the folks behind the website. I think this coalition is the most impressive cross-section of Vancouver society.

time to get metro vancouver moving

There are the usual environmental and transportation groups that typically support these initiatives. There are Greenpeace and Sierra Club that fall under the environmental banner. BEST and HUB Cycling are two of the transportation groups. Even all the local car share companies are supporting the Yes Vote for better transit.

Student groups like the Alma Mater Society at UBC and the Simon Fraser Student Society have voiced support for better transit. These groups are likely supporters since post-secondary students may be the largest user group of transit.

You will also find groups that don’t usually agree on the same things. In one corner, there is a large representation by unions and labour. The BC Federation of Labour and several different unions are in support of better transit. In another corner, there are the business associations, real estate boards, and chambers of commerce from across Metro Vancouver. Business and labour supporting an initiative together? There must be something good going on here.

Finally, there are two groups that don’t always voice support of better transportation initiatives. Tourism boards have thrown their voice behind better transit. So have the prominent medical officers in the region. Not only is transportation choice an important logistics issue, it is becoming more and more of a health issue. More transportation choice means that people may decide to leave the car at home and be a little more active in their daily trips around the region.
