Happy New Year! Chinese New Year, that is. Welcome to the Year of the Monkey in 2016. My celebrations included a visit to Aberdeen Mall in Richmond the week before. However, they were only setting up and the “flower market” wasn’t really open yet. The displays, though, were already all up. We were thinking of joining the countdown last night, but we had food and dog in tow. So we couldn’t go to the mall.
We did have a big end-of-the-year family dinner at my sister’s place, though. It was a mix of traditional Chinese food, sushi, and mussels. We were lucky this year that BC Family Day coincides on the same day as Chinese New Year. That means being able to celebrate without worrying about waking up early for work the next morning.
Then when we got home, I showered for the first time ever with pomelo leaves attached to our showerhead. It’s meant to wash away the old year in anticipation of the new year. It was definitely different.
Then my wifey set up a non-traditional Chinese New Year candy tray with her high tea three tier tray. It’s all red and auspicious. Happy New Year.
